Domaine Hudelot-NoellatAn Atherton Wine Imports Direct DomaineThis has been a very exciting domaine to watch over the last couple of decades and they keep making excellent wine. Alain Hudelot owns some fantastic vineyards and makes his wines in a natural style. He is now assisted by cellar master Vincent Mugnier. There is no green harvest. Alain allows the grapes to ripen to full phenolic maturity, retains some stems, ferments using natural yeasts and employs an extended maceration. While many of the wines see new oak, the wines show a wonderful purity of fruit and the barrel spice is always well integrated. The three Grand Crus are among the best representations of their respective vineyards. The Richebourg vines were planted in the early 1920s and are directly adjacent to the parcel owned by DRC. The vines in Romanee St. Vivant are also 80+ years old. The grapes for the Clos de Vougeot come from two rocky parcels of old vines in the northernmost section of the vineyard – one on the left of the Chateau and the other on the right.
Praise for Hudelot-Noellat“In particular, the Richebourg and Romanée St. Vivant are simply sensational and worth a special search to track down and the Clos de Vougeot is also a serious standout for this appellation. Moreover, the Malconsorts is reference standard and by far the best value here.” – Burghound, Jan 2003 “The proprietor, Alain Hudelot, has an impeccable winemaking technique…these are clearly wines worth the effort to search out” – Robert Parker, Burgundy “one of the unsung heroes of Burgundy for he makes excellent wine, though his efforts are largely unrecognised.” – Clive Coates, Cote D’Or “Alain Hudelot-Noellat’s wines have been among the best in the Cote for many years – full of charm and exuberance, but with considerable depths for those who care to look for them.” – Remington Norman, The Great Domaines of Burgundy
